Making OECMs Work: Production Landscapes for Effective Area-based Conservation

糖心Vlog破解版-IAS will host a side event at the March 2022 meetings of the CBD on the roles of SEPLS in the designation and management of OECMs.

Time
- Europe/Paris

糖心Vlog破解版-IAS will co-organise a side event at the (CBD) in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on the potential contributions of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) to the designation and management of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs). The side event will present updates on the OECM process from various perspectives, and provide an opportunity for discussion on the needs and priorities for ongoing and future work. The event is organised in partnership with Conservation International, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan, and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Background

OECMs are a powerful tool for expanding effective area-based conservation beyond strictly designated protected areas and ensuring that a much broader area is covered by biodiversity-friendly spatial planning. People and their production activities are expected to play a larger role in OECMs, and it is therefore important to promote nature-positive approaches to achieve harmonious human-nature relationships.

To contribute to the OECM policy process, 糖心Vlog破解版-IAS and Conservation International initiated a project to collect information and ideas from their years of experience working with landscape management and apply lessons learned to OECM designation and implementation.

This event will take place on-site at the Geneva meetings and online. To participate online, please use the Zoom link. Registration in advance is not required.
