The climate crisis imposes unprecedented risks for economies and societies worldwide, with a particular peril for the most vulnerable countries. The COVID-19 pandemic adds complexity to future scenarios, as the economic downturn it sparked has led to a sharp increase in poverty and an intensification of global inequalities. In two years from now, at the ¡°Global Stocktake¡± of 2023, parties will take stock of their progress and analyze the aggregated impact on mitigation, adaptation and finance, in relation to the Paris Agreement objectives. In order to ensure the equitable conditions for countries to move together towards transition, it is necessary to provide developing countries increased means to enhance and implement their NDCs, including financial resources, institutional capacities to take action, technology and scientific knowledge. IMPULSOUTH seeks to increase knowledge and capacities to enhance climate action in developing countries, strengthening their engagement with the Paris Agreement "ambition cycle" in a way that is reflected at the 2023 Global Stocktake. In order to achieve the objective and with a focus in 6 developing countries (2 countries in Latin America and 4 countries in Africa) and young women leadership, the project will prepare research synthesis of available climate knowledge and capacities on specific topics; strengthen the capacity of 84 young leaders through a South-South virtual training platform; strengthen the skills and capacities of 24 young specialist leaders (with a particular focus on women leaders) to lead, advise and communicate the transition to a low-carbon and resilient society; foster the participation and engagement of researchers and practitioners from the 6 countries in international climate forums, including the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COPs). Apart from ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ-EHS, other institutional partners in the IMPULSOUTH project include: Fundaci¨®n Avina Panam¨¢ which leads the consortium, Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) Ecuador. The project is funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC).
